Sikkim is located in the northeastern part of the country. It is the least populous state in India ,and the second-smallest   in area after Goa. The thumb-shaped state borders Nepal in the west, Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north and east, and Bhutan in the south-east. The Indian state of West Bengal borders Sikkim to its south. The official languages  are Hindi , Bhutia , Nepali , Lepcha , Limbu and English . The language of almost all written transactions is English.

Despite its tiny size, Sikkim is geographically diverse, owing to its location on the Himalaya. The climate ranges from subtropical to high alpine. Kangchenjunga, the world's third highest peak, is located in the northwestern part of the state on the boundary with Nepal and can be seen from most parts of the state.Sikkim is a popular tourist destination for its culture, scenic beauty and biodiversity.

How To Reach ?
By Flight : The closest Indian Airport is at Bagdogra ,124 kms from Gangtok, where scheduled flights operates from Calcutta , Delhi , Guwahati. Travel time from the airport to Gangtok is 4 hrs . Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation also operates a daily helicopter service flight from Bagdogra to Gangtok (20 minutes).
By Rail : The closest Railhead is at New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri  which are connected to Calcutta ,New Delhi ,Guwahati and other major Indian cities.
By Road : Gangtok is at a distance of 110 kms from Siliguri and will take 4:30 hours from Siliguri to reach Gangtok. Gangtok is connected by road with Darjeeling (4 Hrs) and with Bhutan - Phuntsholing (6 Hrs). 
Additional Information for Non-Indian Nationals
To visit Sikkim in addition to an Indian visa, foreigners must obtain inner line permit (ILP) to visit Sikkim, the permits can be obtained from all Indian missions, Tourism Office- New Delhi, Sikkim Tourism office- Kolkata and Sikkim Tourism Office- Siliguri on the strength of an Indian Visa.
